Assam Chief Minister Launches Smart Street Lighting Initiative in Guwahati

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, is poised to inaugurate the first phase of the Smart Street Lighting Initiative in Guwahati today. The ceremony will occur at Nandi Mikir Primary School in Chachal, with the participation of Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Mrigen Sarania, Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

With a budget of ₹83.96 crore, the project aims to install over 11,000 energy-efficient LED streetlights, creating a safer, smarter, and more sustainable lighting framework. The Centralized Control and Monitoring Systems (CCMS) will facilitate real-time oversight and management, ensuring optimal operation and maintenance.

Noteworthy features of the initiative include group control capabilities and automatic dimming after midnight, which will help minimize operational expenses. This project is anticipated to brighten Guwahati, lower energy consumption, and enhance the city’s visual appeal.
