Gangtok, October 11: On October 12, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate 75 vital infrastructure projects totaling ₹2,236 crore, aimed at enhancing military mobility and logistics support in strategic regions along the China border.
These projects, developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), encompass an array of roads, bridges, and tunnels across key states including Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Singh will officially open the crucial Kupup-Sherathang road and will conduct a virtual launch for the remaining 74 projects. This inauguration will raise the total number of BRO projects dedicated this year to 111, with a cumulative value of ₹3,751 crore.
This initiative arrives in the context of China's ongoing infrastructure expansion along its border with India. Over the past five years, India has completed 450 infrastructure projects worth ₹16,000 crore, strategically addressing the infrastructure gap with China.
Additionally, Singh plans to celebrate Dussehra with frontline soldiers stationed in Sikkim and will participate in the Army Commanders’ conference in Gangtok. The conference will focus on crucial national security issues and strategic enhancements aimed at bolstering the army's combat readiness.
